Pre-Trip Gathering:
Held the evening before launch at the Big Iron Motel. Guests meet the guides, receive dry bags, review packing tips, and settle in before the trip begins. Bring your own beverages (no glass). Coolers are provided.

Rapid Class: Primarily Class III (varies with water levels)
Fun, athletic, and accessible for both first-time and returning rafters.
Trip Summary:
This four-day river experience moves through the warm, wide canyons of the Lower Salmon—big sandy beaches, clear water, deep swimming holes, and long stretches of quiet desert landscape. You’ll run classic wave trains, float through four distinct canyons, and end each day on a beach with good meals, space to breathe, and time for OFF THE GRYD’s guided conversations and check-ins. It’s a reset built around honest community, wild places, and the simple rhythm of river life.
Gear Provided:
- All camping equipment (tents, cots/pads, sleeping bags)
- Type V PFDs (required life jackets)
- Splash jackets and wetsuits when needed

- All river and safety equipment
- Fresh, hearty guide-prepared meals

- Jet-boat ride from the confluence back to Pittsburg Landing
- All transportation during the trip
Bring a reusable water bottle. Personal drinks are welcome—no glass, please.
All participants on this trip must meet the following requirements:
- Be 18 years or older (no minors on this hosted departure)
- Be able to swim comfortably in moving water
- Weigh at least 90 lbs to fit properly into a Type V life jacket
- Have a chest size under 58 inches to ensure safe life jacket fit
- Be able to walk on uneven terrain (sand, rocks, riverbanks)
- Be able to get in and out of a raft without assistance
- Be able to carry a 20–25 lb dry bag to your campsite
Our guides continuously adjust the trip based on weather, water levels, and group needs to keep the experience safe, enjoyable, and comfortable for everyone.

Shuttle Information
For OFF THE GRYD hosted trips, all group transportation during the river portion is included. Guests will be picked up at the Big Iron Motel the day of the launch by Wild River Adventures.
Boise / Idaho Travel:
Most guests choose to carpool from Boise. OFF THE GRYD helps coordinate ride-sharing within the group so everyone arrives together.
If you are flying into Boise or need alternate transportation, contact us—we can help arrange options when available.
After the Trip:
At the end of the river journey, a Wild River Adventures shuttle will transport the group from Pittsburg Landing back to Riggins. Guests may then depart at their convenience or continue carpooling back to Boise.

What Should I Bring?
For this multi-day hosted trip, we provide all core river and camping gear including tents, cots or pads, sleeping bags, personal flotation devices, and dry bags. At the pre-trip meeting on the night before launch, you’ll receive your dry bags along with instructions so you can pack that evening. Our dry bags are approximately 55 liters in size. A helpful tip is to pack your clothing into a large kitchen-size garbage bag at home—if it fits in the garbage bag, it will fit in our dry bag.
Below is a streamlined packing list designed for comfort on the river, evenings in camp, and sun/weather protection.
- 1–2 swimsuits (quick-drying; women may prefer shorts to avoid raft irritation)
- 1–2 quick-drying shirts for on-water use
- 1–2 comfortable shorts and underwear for camp
- 1–2 pairs of socks
- 1 pair quick-drying or lightweight pants (great for sun protection)
- Lightweight fleece, hoodie, or jacket for cool mornings and evenings
- Rain jacket and rain pants
- Sturdy water sandals or river shoes that stay on your feet
- Lightweight footwear for camp (flip flops or soft shoes)
- Comfortable loungewear for camp and sleeping
- Hat with a strap or clip for sun protection
- Sunglasses with a retaining strap
- Small headlamp or flashlight with extra batteries
- Personal hygiene items (toothbrush, toothpaste, feminine products, etc.)
- Plenty of sunscreen + SPF lip balm

Arrival – The Evening Before Launch
Guests are encouraged to arrive in Riggins earlier in the day if possible. As part of this hosted experience, Wild River Adventures offers a complimentary half-day rafting trip on the Riggins Town Section for anyone who arrives early the day before our launch date. This optional warm-up run is a great way to meet the group and get splashed before your trip.
At 7:00 p.m., we will hold a relaxed pre-trip meeting at the Big Iron Motel. During this time, you will:
- Meet your guides, hosts, and fellow participants
- Receive dry bags and packing instructions
- Review next-morning logistics and safety notes
- Pack your beverages (please bring your own – no glass)
We will have group coolers available for drinks. The Big Iron Motel is next door to the Wild River Adventures shop and within walking distance of restaurants, bars, and a grocery store—perfect for dinner or last-minute items.
Most guests carpool from Boise. If you need help coordinating rides, OFF THE GRYD will connect you with the group.
Trip Launch – Day 1
Meet outside the Big Iron Motel for morning pickup. After loading gear, we’ll board the Wild River Adventures shuttle for a 30-minute drive to Hammer Creek, the starting point of the Lower Salmon River journey.
Day 1 on the River
- 8:00 am – Pickup at Big Iron Motel and shuttle to the put-in
- 10:00 am – Launch from Hammer Creek
- 12:00 pm – Lunch
- Afternoon – Rafting, swimming, and settling into river life
- 4:00 pm – Arrive at camp
- 6:00–6:30 pm – Dinner and dessert
- Evening – Fireside conversations and downtime
Day 2
- 8:00 am – Breakfast, cleanup, pack boats
- 9:00–10:00 am – Back on the water
- 12:00–12:30 pm – Lunch
- 12:30–4:00 pm – Rafting, canyon views, swims, and downtime
- 4:00 pm – Camp setup
- 6:00–6:30 pm – Dinner
- Evening – Connection, reflection, free time
Day 3
- 8:00 am – Breakfast and morning routine
- 9:00–10:00 am – Back on the river
- 12:00–12:30 pm – Lunch
- 12:30–4:00 pm – Rafting and swimming

Day 4 – Jet-Back Day
On the final morning, we float toward the confluence of the Salmon and Snake Rivers. A jet boat will meet the group there and carry everyone upriver to Pittsburg Landing—an exciting, scenic end to the trip.
At Pittsburg Landing, a Wild River Adventures shuttle will bring everyone back to Riggins. Guests often stay one more night at the Big Iron Motel.
Departure
Most guests depart Riggins in the morning and carpool home. If you arranged other transportation, details will be confirmed prior to the trip.

Men only. This retreat is designed specifically for an all-men’s group.

Multi-Day Rafting
Salmon River Multi-Day Rafting Trips
Join us for a fully catered, adventurous 4-day raft trip on the lower Salmon River! This trip takes your group on a raft and camp trip in the remote Lower Salmon River Gorge. The trip begins at Hammer Creek near White Bird, Idaho and carves its way through 75 miles of the second deepest canyon in the contiguous 48 states and ends at Heller bar on the Snake River near Lewiston, ID. The Salmon River is one of the most sought-after rafting destinations in the United States. You will enjoy rafting amazing whitewater rapids that range from mild to moderate in difficulty, and camping on white sandy beaches along the crystal clear water of the river.
Your guides will set up camp and prepare delicious meals like steaks and salmon cooked on grills and desserts like cobblers and cakes in dutch ovens. While dinner is prepared you can relax, read a book, or enjoy fishing, hiking, playing games or unwind around an evening campfire.
A gear boat will transport all of your personal gear, food and camping gear for the trip while you ride along with your guide at the helm in one of the guest rafts. You will have the option to paddle an inflatable kayak in some of the lesser rapids or leisurely float or swim along in the calm stretches of water.
Prices listed are per person. We need at least 6 guests to make these trips happen. If you would like to book, but your party has fewer than 6 people, give us a call and we’ll work some magic!
A detailed packing list will be provided upon reservation confirmation. The following is to help you get started.
On the water: Fast-drying Swim suit or shorts, Shirt, Hat, durable footwear, no flip-flops, sandals with a strap and sturdy sole are best (Teva, Chaco, old sneakers, etc.) Sunglasses with strap, refillable water bottle, camera, sunscreen, rain gear.
In Camp: Dry clothing, dry footwear, jacket, rain coat, toiletries, pillow, flashlight, biodegradable soap, towel. Medications, epi-pen or comparable if severe allergies to foods or insects.
You will need to be in or near Riggins the night before the trip start date.

Our experience with each of these has been clean rooms, comfortable beds, and good Wi-Fi. These motels all have websites for more information. All Riggins motels are within a 3-minute drive to our shop, the Big Iron Motel is next door. There are other accommodations within a 40 minute drive in New Meadow, McCall or Grangeville.
You will meet us at our shop in Riggins, ID at 8:00 am on the morning of the first day of your trip. After our guides help get you things situated, we will load up the van’s and drive about 30 min to Hammer Creek for the start of your adventure.
Daily schedule on the river will be something like this:
Day 1:
- 8:00 am – Arrive at Wild River Adventures
- 10:00 am – Launch from Hammer Creek
- 12:00 – Lunch
- 4:00 pm – Locate beach for camping and set up camp, relax while dinner is prepared
- 6:00 – 6:30 Dinner, dessert
- Free time – relax, play games, campfire, fishing, etc.
Day 2:
- 8:00 am – Breakfast, clean up, pack boats
- 9:00 – 10:00 Back on the water for more rafting
- 12:00 – 12:30 Lunch
- 12:30 – 4 pm Rafting
- 4:00 – locate beach for camp and set up camp
- 6:00 – 6:30 Dinner, dessert,
- Free time – relax, play games, campfire, fishing, etc.
Day 3:
- 8:00 am – Breakfast, clean up, pack boats
- 9:00 – 10:00 Back on the water for more rafting
- 12:00 – 12:30 Lunch
- 12:30 – 4:00 pm Rafting
- 4:00 – Locate beach for camp, set up camp, prepare diner
- 6:00 – 6:30 dinner, dessert
- Free time- relax, play games, campfire, fishing, etc.
- Optional Day 3: Lay-over Day or float until noon. Hiking and other activities can be done. 5-day trips only
Day 4:
- 8:00 am – Breakfast, clean up, pack boats
- 9:30 – 10:00 Rafting, Confluence with Snake River through lower Hells Canyon
- 12:00 – Lunch
- 1:00 – 2:00 – Arrive at Heller Bar (near Lewiston, ID), guest pack personal belongings into own luggage
- Shuttle back to Riggins or have guest vehicles waiting there.
Other options: Some groups opt to meet a jet boat at the confluence of the Salmon and Snake rivers and take an approximately 1 hour jet boat ride back up the Snake River to Pittsburgh Landing where a shuttle will pick you up for a 1 hour ride back to Riggins. Your trip can have up to 24 passengers – so feel free to invite other family and friends for a memory filled trip. Large groups please contact us for group pricing.
If anyone wants to fish, they will need to have their own equipment and an Idaho fishing license.

Hydrate! We recommend bringing water in a reusable water bottle (not bottled water). NO GLASS on the river. Soft-shell coolers are permitted as long as your guide feels comfortable they will not pose a safety hazard. 😉
