Half-Day Whitewater Rafting on the Salmon River
This 2-3 hour rafting trip covers about 10 miles and takes you through 10 rapids on the Salmon River. Whether you’re new to rafting or have been before, this trip is a great way to experience whitewater in one of Idaho’s most scenic river canyons.
The Salmon River has a mix of mild and moderate rapids. Water levels change throughout the season, affecting trip conditions.
Trip Schedule & Meeting Location
We run morning and afternoon trips daily. You’ll check in at our Wild River Adventures shop on Main Street in Riggins, get your gear, and go through a safety talk before heading to the river.
Seasonal River Conditions & Age Restrictions
Water levels vary throughout the summer, changing the rafting experience:
- Early June: High water, big rapids, and strong hydraulics, often over 20,000 CFS. Minimum age is 12 years old during these conditions. The trip typically runs closer to 2 hours round trip.
- July: By July, the river warms to about 70°F, and flows drop to around 10,000 CFS. This is peak season—weekends book up fast, so reserve early.
- August: Flows drop below 10,000 CFS, air temps reach the 90s and 100s, and the big river beaches are fully exposed. The water is warm and great for all ages. This trip usually runs closer to 3 hours round trip.
